From uni friends to housemates to life partners — Hannah & Lachlan’s love story has been years in the making and their stunning autumn wedding in Canberra was the perfect celebration of it all. These two first crossed paths a decade ago while studying in Melbourne, slowly building a beautiful connection through shared nights out, long conversations and their old residential college ball. No flashy first date, just a natural love that grew with time.
Their engagement was just as thoughtful and intentional. In September 2023, Lachlan proposed at the National Arboretum, a place they can return to often. He chose a beautiful Australian sapphire ring and they topped off the evening with a romantic dinner at Pilot, Canberra perfection!
When it came time to plan their wedding, Hannah & Lachlan leaned into their favourite season: autumn. The day was a love letter to Canberra.. from the warm, natural colour palette inspired by the turning leaves.
The couple exchanged vows during a beautiful ceremony at the Margaret Whitlam Pavilion, surrounded by sweeping views and golden light. It was emotional, genuine and uniquely them. Hearing their personal vows was a highlight they had both eagerly awaited (and yes, there were happy tears).
The celebration continued at Parlour, one of Canberra’s most charming reception spaces, where incredible food, wine and music brought the night to life. With loved ones travelling from all over Brisbane, Geelong and Melbourne, it was a rare and treasured moment to have almost everyone they love in one place.
Their biggest tip? Don’t feel pressured to follow traditions just for the sake of it. If something doesn’t feel like you, it’s okay to leave it out. Hannah & Lachlan recommend focusing your budget on the things that truly matter to you as a couple (for them, it was the food, wine and music), rather than getting caught up in every wedding “must-have.” Once you’ve locked in your vibe and chosen your dream vendors, they suggest stepping back from the wedding blogs and social media noise, it’s easy to second-guess your choices and feel like you need more than you actually do. Their day was a perfect example of how meaningful and beautiful a wedding can be when it reflects your love and what you value most.
