As a Canberra wedding photographer, I feel incredibly lucky to live and work in such a beautiful part of the world. From sweeping country landscapes to elegant waterfront views, Canberra offers a diverse range of wedding venues that suit every kind of couple and celebration. Whether you’re dreaming of a rustic farm wedding, a luxe lakeside reception, or a relaxed winery vibe, this city has something truly special to offer.

Over the years, I’ve photographed countless weddings across the ACT and surrounding regions, and these five venues always stand out — not just for their stunning backdrops, but for their warmth, service, and unforgettable atmosphere. So if you’re searching for the perfect setting to say "I do," here are my top 5 wedding venues in Canberra.

1. Petrichor Farm

Location: Gundaroo NSW (35min from Canberra)
Capacity: Up to 180 seated guests
Ceremony spaces: Under the Elm Tree or the Central Lawn.

Located just outside Canberra in Gundagai, Petrichor Farm is the perfect choice for couples after a relaxed, rustic-luxe vibe. With rolling hills, golden paddocks, and a beautifully designed modern barn, it’s a dream location for natural light wedding photography and sunset portraits. Petrichor combines rural charm with a refined elegant style, making it one of the most sought-after wedding venues near Canberra. In addition to stunning views, the service is exceptional and the food is the best I've ever eaten! I may be a little bias here because I got married at Petrichor Farm myself (happy to chat about my experience but in summary it's 100/10) but capturing recent weddings at Petrichor Farm has only confirmed for me that it is without a doubt one of the best wedding venues in the Canberra area.

2. The Marion

Location: Commonwealth Park, Canberra

Ceremony spaces: Outdoor lakeside lawn or The Terrace (wet weather option)

The Marion offers luxury right in the heart of Canberra. Set beside Lake Burley Griffin, this contemporary venue brings together glass-walled architecture, uninterrupted water views, and high-end finishes. It’s ideal for couples after a stylish, city-chic celebration. Natural light pours into every corner of the space, and the lakeside lawn is a stunning spot for a ceremony framed by water and sky. The Marion is known among wedding photographers as a top venue not just because of it's breathtaking (and very central) location but the service and food are exceptional!

3. Poachers Pantry

Location: Springrange, NSW (30min from Canberra)
Capacity: Up to 120 seated guests
Ceremony spaces: Homestead Lawn or Marquee Gardens

Poachers Pantry is a long-standing favourite in the Canberra wedding scene - and for good reason.. This working farm, winery, restaurant and smokehouse is full of rustic elegance — think old homesteads, manicured gardens and rolling hills and golden fields. The ceremony space at the Homestead Lawn is under a beautiful Elm Tree and feels incredibly refined but private. Receptions are hosted in The Marquee which is light and bright, overlooks beautiful gardens and has plenty of space for an epic party. For a memorable wedding day filled with candid, authentic wedding photography, Poachers offers such a naturally beautiful setting.

The Boat House is a Canberra icon — known for its lakeside location, fine dining, and warm, ambient interiors. It’s the perfect blend of refined and relaxed, with ceremony options right on the lawn overlooking the water. The interiors feature moody tones, timber textures, and intimate lighting — beautiful for romantic wedding receptions. The sunsets over the lake? Pure magic. It’s ideal for couples who want a polished, waterfront wedding right in the heart of the city.

5. Brindabella Hills Winery

Location: Wallaroo, NSW (30min from Canberra)
Capacity: Up to 90 seated guests
Ceremony spaces: The Grass Terrace overlooking the Murrumbidgee River or overlooking the Vineyard.

If you're dreaming of an intimate, vineyard-style wedding with panoramic views, Brindabella Hills Winery is a must-see. The ceremony lawn is perched high above the valley and offers one of the best ceremony backdrops in the region. Receptions are held in a beautiful restaurant with indoor vines and lots of natural light — it’s a refined but relaxed space perfect for a meaningful and memoriable wedding celebration. The sunsets at Brindabella Hills Winery are incredible as are the other photo opportunities across the stunning property. A special mention to their incredible wedding coordinator, Maddi - she is incredible at what she does and is exactly the kind of person you want working behind the scenes on your wedding day. I wish every venue had a Maddi!

There’s something truly special about photographing weddings in Canberra. From rolling hills and vineyards to elegant city venues and lakeside views, this region offers an incredible variety of locations that suit just about every kind of couple and celebration. These five venues — Petrichor Farm, The Marion, Brindabella Hills Winery, Poachers Pantry, and The Boat House — are not only visually stunning, but also run by passionate teams who care deeply about creating a seamless, unforgettable experience for you and your guests.

As a local Canberra wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of documenting love stories at all of these venues, and I know how to make the most of each space — whether it’s chasing golden hour light at Brindabella, capturing emotion-filled vows in Poachers’ garden, or sneaking sunset portraits by the lake at The Boat House. My approach is relaxed and unobtrusive, focused on telling your story in a way that feels candid, authentic, and fun — because that’s what makes your day truly yours.

If you’re still in the planning stages and looking for someone who knows the area, the venues, and how to capture all the real, fleeting moments that matter — I’d love to be part of your day. You can check out more of my work and get in touch at www.acaciaandgrace.com.au.

Consider your wedding style, guest list size, budget, and ideal location. As a Canberra wedding photographer, I always recommend visiting venues in person and picturing how your day will feel in the space — and how your photos will look too!
A helpful thing to start with before your visit is to draft a rough guest list to help you estimate how many people will attend your wedding. With a rough idea of how many guests you hope to invite, you can calculate which venues are within your budget because many charge a per person for catering purposes as well as the venue hire fee and other costs.

This page has outlined a few of my favourite venues in the Canberra region and I realised what it is that they all have in common - exceptional service with staff who really care about your wedding, amazing food (that's important!), stunning views and function spaces and that you can have your entire celebration in one place (reception, photos and ceremony). While I still love documenting multi-location weddings, it certainly helps make the day more seamless when you have one location and one team taking care of you for the whole day. That's why Petrichor Farm, The Marion, Poachers Pantry, The Boat House and Brindabella Hills Winery are my top 5 choices for wedding venues in Canberra.

Popular venues can book out 12–18 months in advance, especially during peak wedding season (in Canberra that's Fridays and Saturday in Autumn and Spring). If that includes a date wedding you have mind, I highly recommend securing your venue as early as possible.
For other weekday weddings (Mon-Thu) you have a lot more flexibility to book less than 12 months away and the same goes for summer and winter dates.
As a summer bride, my wedding was 38 degree day in a scorching Canberra January! But no matter the weather, your wedding day will be perfect rain, hail or shine!

Canberra has everything from modern city spots like The Marion, to vineyard weddings at Poachers Pantry, to rustic farms like Petrichor. Whether you want a lakeside view, a garden ceremony, or a cozy reception in the hills — there’s something for every couple!
Need some guidance on what venues suit the style you have in mind for your wedding day? Browse my real weddings on my blog or send me a message! I'd love to help you select a venue that will a perfect fit for your wedding day.

Canberra is full of breathtaking wedding venues perfect for photography. Some of my favourites as a wedding photographer include Pialligo Estate or Shaw Estate for its gardens and vineyard views, and The National Gallery of Australia for modern architecture and clean, minimalistic lines.

For rustic charm, Gold Creek Station, Tallagandra Hill Winery, and The Old Coach Stables in Gunning are picturesque choices that photograph beautifully all year round.

Yes! If you're looking for something different, consider The Fitters Workshop for a stylish, industrial look, or The Truffle Farm for a countryside celebration with a gourmet twist. Old Mount Stromlo Observatory offers epic views and history, while Gorman Arts Centre brings an artsy, heritage feel to your big day.
Parlour in New Acton is another venue perfect for intimate cocktail-style weddings that is filled with character.

Choosing the right wedding vendors is just as important as picking your venue — they’ll bring your wedding vision to life and help the day run smoothly! I always recommend working with vendors who not only fit your style and budget, but who also have great communication and genuinely care about creating a beautiful experience for you. As a Canberra wedding photographer, I've had the pleasure of working with so many incredibly talented florists, musicians, DJs, celebrants, videographers and more — and I’ve put together a list of my favourites to help you get started.
You can check out my recommended wedding vendors here — these are people I absolutely love working with, and I know you’ll love them too!
