Elopements are one of the most intentional ways to celebrate your love — stripped back, deeply personal and centred entirely on the two of you. No crowd expectations, no rigid timelines. Just space to breathe, connect and honour this chapter in a way that feels true.
Whether you’re planning a quiet Canberra elopement in nature, a city ceremony followed by champagne, or an intimate celebration with just a handful of your favourite people, eloping allows you to design a day that reflects who you are - not what tradition says it should look like.
As a Canberra elopement photographer, I approach elopements with the same care, artistry, and calm guidance as a full wedding day. I’ll gently guide you when needed, give you room when moments are unfolding naturally, and ensure your experience feels relaxed, unrushed and supported from start to finish.
The result is a collection of images that feel effortless, emotionally rich, and timeless — photographs that capture not just how your elopement looked, but how it felt. The quiet glances. The laughter. The relief of choosing a day that was truly yours.
Canberra offers something rare for couples choosing to elope - space, variety, and ease.
From sweeping nature reserves and quiet bushland to elegant urban architecture and lakefront locations, Canberra allows you to move between environments without long travel times or logistical stress. That means more time being present and less time rushing.
Eloping in Canberra gives you flexibility. You can plan a ceremony that feels intimate and unhurried, choose a weekday or off-peak season with ease, and create a timeline that prioritises light, atmosphere, and how you want the day to unfold. Not external expectations.
For couples who value intention, beauty, and a calm experience, Canberra is the perfect backdrop for an elopement that feels personal, grounded, and genuinely meaningful.
Elopements allow space for a different pace. Without the pull of a large schedule or guest expectations, your day can unfold naturally, with time to pause, breathe and be fully present with each other. My role is to support that experience quietly and confidently, so you never feel rushed or unsure of what comes next.
As your Canberra elopement photographer, I guide you when guidance is helpful and step back when moments are naturally unfolding. You do not need to perform or know what to do in front of the camera. I create an environment where you can simply be yourselves, knowing you are supported every step of the way.
The result is imagery that feels honest and timeless. Photographs that reflect how your elopement felt, not just how it looked. From gentle moments of connection to the atmosphere of the landscape around you, your gallery tells the full story of a day chosen with intention.
Eloping might be right for you if you feel drawn to something quieter, more intentional and less performative.
If the idea of a large guest list feels overwhelming rather than exciting.
If you care more about how your day feels than how many people attend.
If you value connection, atmosphere and meaning over tradition for tradition’s sake.
Many couples who choose to elope are not trying to avoid a wedding. They are choosing a different kind of celebration. One that allows them to be fully present with each other. One that reflects who they are now.
If you are imagining a day that feels calm, beautiful and genuinely yours, then an elopement in Canberra could be exactly the right choice.
And if you are still unsure, that is completely normal. Sometimes a conversation is all it takes to find clarity.

We had a small elopement style wedding and Steph not only took the most beautiful shots, but also helped us with natural feeling guidance (we needed it!) and is also just a generally lovely person. Was so happy she captured our day and would recommend to anyone.

To legally marry in Canberra, you must lodge a Notice of Intended Marriage with your celebrant at least one month before your ceremony. You will need two witnesses over the age of 18 present at your ceremony, even for an elopement (but I can be one!)
Many couples choose a registered celebrant who specialises in intimate weddings and elopements. If you would like recommendations, I am always happy to connect you with trusted Canberra vendors who align with a relaxed and intentional experience.
Yes. Australian marriage law requires two witnesses over 18 to be present at your ceremony. If you are planning a private elopement and do not have guests attending, I can act as one of your witnesses - so then you only need one person to join us (in addition to your celebrant).
Canberra offers an incredible variety of elopement locations within a short drive. From lakeside ceremonies overlooking Lake Burley Griffin to secluded bushland, modern architectural backdrops, or elegant garden settings, the options are diverse and accessible. But elopements at home, in a space that means so much to you, are also beautiful.
I help couples choose locations based on light, privacy, accessibility and the atmosphere you want your day to feel like. Your elopement location should reflect you, not just look beautiful in photos.
Most Canberra elopements are beautifully covered in 1.5-2 hours depending on your plans. This allows time for your ceremony, couple portraits and any additional moments such as champagne celebrations or cutting a cake if you want to.
If you are planning a more immersive experience with multiple locations or a private dinner afterward, we can tailor coverage to suit your vision.
Almost every couple tells me this at first. Elopements actually make it easier to feel relaxed because there is no audience and no pressure to perform.
I gently guide you when needed and create natural prompts that allow you to interact with each other rather than focus on the camera. The goal is for your images to feel like you, not posed or forced.
Absolutely. Many Canberra elopements include immediate family or a small group of close friends. Eloping does not have to mean completely alone. It simply means choosing intimacy and intention over scale.
If you're planning to have more than 10 guests, chat to me about my other wedding photography packages which may be better suited to your day.
Canberra weather can be unpredictable, but it is rarely unmanageable. I always help plan flexible location options and backup plans where needed. Some of the most atmospheric and romantic images are created in softer weather conditions.
The most important thing is that you feel supported and prepared, whatever the forecast brings.
