To legally marry in Canberra, you must lodge a Notice of Intended Marriage with your celebrant at least one month before your ceremony. You will need two witnesses over the age of 18 present at your ceremony, even for an elopement (but I can be one!)
Many couples choose a registered celebrant who specialises in intimate weddings and elopements. If you would like recommendations, I am always happy to connect you with trusted Canberra vendors who align with a relaxed and intentional experience.
Yes. Australian marriage law requires two witnesses over 18 to be present at your ceremony. If you are planning a private elopement and do not have guests attending, I can act as one of your witnesses - so then you only need one person to join us (in addition to your celebrant).

Most Canberra elopements are beautifully covered in 1.5-2 hours depending on your plans. This allows time for your ceremony, couple portraits and any additional moments such as champagne celebrations or cutting a cake if you want to.
