There’s something so magical about an elopement, and Ally & Simon’s day in the gardens at Old Parliament House, Canberra was the perfect example of love in its purest form. Just the two of them, surrounded by the soft winter light and the charm of the historic gardens, it was an intimate celebration that truly reflected who they are as a couple.
Their story began on Bumble, when Simon originally from Perth but posted in Melbourne with the army matched with Ally. What could have been a simple swipe turned into something life-changing. Very quickly, their new relationship was tested by lockdowns, but instead of slowing them down, it gave them time to really connect. By the end of the year, Simon was being sent to Brisbane and Ally made the brave (and beautiful!) decision to move with him.
These two share such a fun, authentic energy. They love their rituals and little adventures, whether it’s Saturday morning trivia over coffee, competitive rounds of Wordle or long walks together spotting wildlife. They’re just as happy planning themed date nights at home with wine and music as they are heading out for a flashy dinner at some of Canberra’s best spots like Akiba or Bar Rochford. It’s easy to see why their wedding day was all about keeping things simple, genuine, and completely “them.”
Their elopement in the gardens of Old Parliament House was filled with laughter, warmth, and an undeniable sense of joy. With no big crowd, no distractions, and no pressure, they were able to soak up every moment together. The historic backdrop of the gardens created a stunning atmosphere, with its peaceful charm and winter tones making the perfect setting for their vows.
When I asked what they were most excited about for their future, Ally & Simon shared that they’re planning a unique honeymoon adventure on Kangaroo Island. It’s such a fitting choice for them combining their love of the outdoors, great food, and cozy moments together.
Elopements like Ally & Simon’s are such a reminder that at the heart of it, a wedding is about two people choosing each other. And as their Canberra wedding photographer, it was such a privilege to capture their love story in such an authentic and beautiful way.
